Metal and Ceramic Braces

At Signature Orthodontics we work with both metal braces and ceramic braces to straighten and align teeth.

Both metal and ceramic braces work by applying continuous pressure to the teeth to gradually move them into their correct positions. The treatment time for braces varies depending on the severity of the case, but typically takes between 18 and 24 months.

During this time, patients need to attend regular appointments with our clinical team to monitor progress and have braces adjusted.

While the two types of braces share many similarities, there are also some key differences:

Metal braces are made of stainless steel brackets and wires, and are the most commonly used type of braces. They are very durable and can easily withstand the forces of chewing and biting. Metal braces are also typically less expensive than other types, making them a popular choice.

Ceramic braces use clear or tooth-coloured brackets and silver wires to make them less noticeable. They can be slightly less durable and require more care when eating, but they are an excellent option for people who want a treatment option that is more aesthetic.

Each Signature treatment begins with a consultation with one of our orthodontists, Dr Richard Salmon and Dr Linda Curl.

After assessing your individual situation, they'll be able to advise the type(s) of braces that will be suitable for your individual case for your specific needs and goals. Then the choice is yours!
